7 reasons why every guy needs a man bag

Hey guys - it’s Dan here, founder of The Man Bag Co. I’m just a regular dude from the urban jungle known as Singapore (no, we’re not a part of China)

I started The Man Bag Co. because it was a personal problem of mine, unable to find a proper daily essentials bag that had all the features I wanted.

Anyways, that’s a story for another time.

Today, I’m here to tell you why you need A Man Bag.

First off - what the heck is a Man Bag?

Let me give you a quote from the ‘godfather’ of men’s fashion and style, Aaron Marino of Alpha M. (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1KbedtKa3d5dleFR6OjQMg)

“A man bag is a small to medium sized bag to carry all your daily essentials. Not including your computer and stuff. This is for everything else”

Are your keys, phone, wallet, and gum bulging your pockets and busting your seams? Then Aaron Marino suggests a satchel (man purse, man bag, man sack, murse) to accommodate all of your stuff.

Man bags are typically going to be smaller than a messenger bag, but big enough to carry your essentials.

Guys carry more stuff nowadays. Especially in the era of Covid-19, here are some things you would likely carry when you’re out :

If you didn’t have a bag, where would you keep your daily essentials?!

So, here are 7 reasons why every guy needs a Man Bag :

  1. Avoid stuffing your pockets

Any man with some sense of style would tell you that you shouldn’t stuff everything in your jeans/pants pockets, because :

  1. Those ugly pocket bulges are an eyesore - which made me realise, I've never seen a woman stuff her pockets before!!
  1. Do you notice how difficult it is to pull out just ONE item from your pockets when they’re all stacked on top of each other in such a tight space?
  1. I’ve also scratched my phone screen and damaged my headset because of how I kept stuffing them into my pockets and pulling them out to use them, over and over and over again. Over time, the constant friction leads to wear and tear - which means I need to spend money to replace them
  1. Speaking of scratches, I don’t know about you, but I’ve had my fair share of having holes in jean pockets because my keys kept scratching on the soft inner pocket fabric and eventually tearing it. There goes a good pair of jeans… and more money out of my pockets

Never again will I stuff my pockets (which is where our #freeyourpockets™ tagline came from, by the way).

My daily essentials deserve some care.

  1. Don’t lose your items

If you keep your stuff in your pockets - there’s a good chance you’ll take them out when you sit down, because of how uncomfortable it is when you’re sitting on your wallet, or when your phone is pushing up against your body.

This constant taking out and putting it back in means you stand a higher chance of accidentally leaving your items somewhere… only to realise it when you’re back home.

  1. Dump and forget

Do you ‘unpack’ your pockets when you get back home? I.e Taking out your phone, wallet etc. and putting them on your nightstand.

With a Man Bag, there's no need to ‘unpack’ your pockets when you get home. Most guys who use man bags simply dump the entire bag on their table/bed when they get home, and pick it back up again when they’re going out.

Easy peasy, because some guys are just lazy.

The best part is - you won’t forget to bring anything, since all your essentials are always going to be in there.

  1. Keep stuff organised

We put lots of pockets in our bags so that you can separate your bigger items from smaller ones, so no more fiddling about trying to separate your phone from your headset.

This also means your items are more cared for since they are in their own pocket, and this can also prevent damage or scratches as they don’t really come into contact with your other sharper items (e.g phone screen vs house key).

The bright orange interior also means it’s super easy for you to spot your items.

  1. Complement your outfit

The right bag can make or break your attire.

  1. Pickpockets, stay clear.

If you’re like me and you’re very wary of pickpockets, a Man Bag should allow you to sling it across your chest so that none of your valuables become easy targets.

This is especially useful if you’re travelling since losing your money and passport when abroad can be a huge hassle.

  1. Women have handbags - why don’t men get the same treatment?

Ok this really isn’t a reason, but #equality right?

Women get a billion choices when it comes to handbags, from luxury brands to affordable ones, in various colours, sizes, materials - yet men are still stuck stuffing their pockets, or settling for cheap bags that do not last, or super expensive ones that just don’t do a very good job.

It wasn’t difficult to come up with this post, since I’m literally just penning down my frustrations.

Anyways, I hope this post gave you a good reason to invest in a Man Bag so you too can #freeyourpockets™.
